Gold prices raised twice in one week in Bangladesh

Jewelry_Shop_GoldGold prices in Bangladesh have risen again for the second time in a week. The prices of the precious metal were raised by Tk 1,225 per bhori (11.66gm) after its increase by the same amount on Feb 4.

The new prices will take effect from Saturday, Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BAJUS) general secretary Enamul Haque told on Thursday.

“Gold prices have risen in the global market. We are adjusting our prices to that. The members of the BAJUS executive committee unanimously decided to increase prices during a meeting on Thursday.”

At the new rate, a bhori of 22 carat gold, the finest quality, will cost Tk 44,965, with 21 carat at Tk 42,865 per bhori, and 18 carat at Tk 36,217.

Gold extracted from old jewellery would be Tk 25,136 a bhori.

Gold prices have been thrice this year, registering a total increase of Tk 3, 675.

On Jan 13, the prices were raised by the same amount, Tk 1,225.

On Nov 9 last year, the cost had dropped by an equal sum followed by another reduction on Dec 5.

Every bhori of 22 carat alloy has 91.6 percent pure gold, while 21 carat has 87.5 percent, and 18 carat has 75 percent. Gold derived from old ornaments lacks standardised fineness.
